Italy’s Tivùsat reaches 3.5m active smart cards
Italian DTH platform Tivùsat is celebrating its 10th anniversary with 3.5 million active smart cards, accounting for a 13 per cent penetration rate.

Managed by Tivù, a company owned by RAI, Mediaset, Telecom Italia, and two associations of local broadcasters, Tivùsat has an average of 4.5 million daily viewers, according to Auditel data.

Tivùsat broadcasts 116 national and international TV channels, including general entertainment, thematic and all-news, of which 47 in HD, as well as 47 radio stations, a wide choice of on-demand services and 4 channels in Ultra HD.

Also available is tivùon, an application that allows users to watch most of the TV programmes aired in the last week, by offering access the on-demand services of the main TV networks and an EPG.

Viewers do not require a subscription to access Tivùsat, with the only requirements being a certified Tivùsat decoder or CAM and smart-card (included in the package) and a satellite dish pointed at the Eutelsat Hotbird 13° East satellite.

Tivùsat is a founding member of the Free TV Alliance that also includes Fransat (France), Freesat (UK) and HD Plus (Germany).
